Valles Caldera Ecology Hike on the South Rim

This six-mile, round-trip hike will explore the overall ecology of the floor of Caldera to the southern rim. We will be in the area of the first and second day of the Las Conchas Fire of June 2011. See the response of these habitats and ecosystems to the various burn intensities, from mild to severe. We'll also see the overlap of La Mesa and the Dome fires to the east and south, and how the southern Jemez mountains have evolved with drought and conflagration and regeneration.
