We'll explore the art of grinding, shaping, and polishing semi-precious stone resulting in a beautiful cabochon. Cabochons are used in jewelry making; pendants, rings, bracelets, bolos, belt buckets, etc. We'll use raw rock, templates, trim saws and lapidary machines in the cabochon creation process. The rock will consist of various hardnesses. The shape of the cabochons will be primarily ovals, but we may create a designer cab as well. You'll learn about native New Mexican stone and other materials from around the world.
