APPLICATION for Home Energy Auditor Training (TREC) program.

The Home Energy Auditor Training Program is an intensive, introductory program, FREE FOR NEW MEXICO RESIDENTS, that provides foundational skills and industry certifications in preparation for successful entry into employment.

All graduates will earn 3 Building Performance Institute (BPI) certifications, culminating in Building Analyst Professional (BA-P) certification required to conduct professional residential energy audits:
·         Building Performance Institute, Inc. | Building Science Principles;
·         Building Performance Institute, Inc. | Building Analyst Technician (BA-T);
·         Building Performance Institute, Inc. | Building Analyst Professional (BA-P).

Program length:
Trainees can complete the program in approximately 3-4 months, with an average time commitment of 8-10 hours per week.
The program is primarily delivered online asynchronously, with in-person training at the Energy Smart Academy (ESA) laboratory on the campus of Santa Fe Community College (SFCC). 

Next session in Fall 2026, Dates: August 31, 2026  –  December 11, 2026
-80 hours total online; Starting August 31, 2026.
-20 hours total in the lab; 2 -days during the week of November 9, 2026 and a half day on the week of Nov 13, 2026
-10 hours total of exam time.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be at least 18 years old by the program start date
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Have a valid New Mexico driver's license
  • Have a strong desire to learn a skilled trade and commit to the program's requirements and deadlines
