This course will look at chocolate use through ceremony, politics, and high society starting with Indigenous people of the (present day) Americas thousands of years ago, and moving into colonial times in Spain. Through paintings, specialized drinking vessels, and historic accounts, we'll follow the changing role and rise in popularity of drinking chocolate, ending our session with a sampling of a historic recipe.
