Join local geologist Kirt Kempter on a 5-mile hike near Ojo Caliente, exploring an exhumed maar volcano southwest of the hot springs and spa. The hike will feature ancient Proterozoic rocks of the Vadito Group, Miocene and Oligocene River sediments, and a 15-million-year-old volcano that produced a maar crater and phreatomagmatic deposits. The hike is moderate to strenuous and will include irregular terrain. Hiking poles recommended. Please bring appropriate hiking attire, plenty of water, and a picnic lunch. Following the hike, you may choose to relax and soak at the Ojo Spa (entry fee not included).
