Unlike an autobiography which is a comprehensive and chronological account of one’s life, a memoir is a creative non-fiction story of an impactful memory, character shaping episode or a life-changing event. A memoir can take on a more story-telling form, with character development and story arcs like a novel. Join this interactive class and learn storytelling concepts drawn from character archetypes, plot types, and Kurt Vonnegut’s thesis on the shape of stories to make your creative non-fiction/memoir memorable. Each class will present writing concepts and the opportunity to apply the concepts in practice. Encompassing both memoir and creative non-fiction, a memoir is always a creative non-fiction, but a non-fiction is not always a memoir.
