Discover how George Balanchine brought his exceptional Russian training to the United States and transformed ballet for the twentieth century. Through video and discussion, we will uncover the birth of neoclassicism, the establishment of the School of American Ballet, the inception of the New York City Ballet, and the extraordinary artistic legacy of George Balanchine. Participants will uncover Balanchine’s history in Russia and Europe through his early works, learn about his association with Lincoln Kirstein and their partnership to build a ballet tradition in America, discover the birth of Neo-classicism through select works, and investigate the incredible legacy of his school, company, and brilliant choreography.
