« back to classes page
Some of the most glorious, refined and angelic music ever created came about in the Renaissance era (roughly 1400 - 1600). Following the Middle Ages, the Renaissance (rebirth) experienced a time of discovery and exploration. Through guided listening, we will become acquainted with the music of des Prez, Gesualdo, Tallis, Palestrina, Praetorius, Holbrooke, Byrd, Dowland, and others. Along with the vocal music, we will explore and listen to the instruments in use at that time, and how the music differed from the Medieval period. We will learn about polyphony, modes, motets, madrigals, chansons, and liturgical and sacred music.
