Introduction to West African Dance

Students will learn and develop core techniques and principles of West African dance from Guinea. The class will begin with a thorough warm up to prepare the body. Fundamentals of African dance movement will be introduced, followed by short sequences with clear breakdown of steps, demonstrations and repetition. Songs and cultural context will be shared, and live drumming will accompany the class. A rhythmic, energizing workout for all levels.
