This watercolor course will cover intermediate and advanced techniques with gouache and other materials introduced as a minor element. Self-expression will be encouraged through design and the creative process. Color theory and methods of applying paint will be explored. A step-by-step demo along with individual (and group) critique will be conducted throughout the course. Students will be encouraged to work from a still life, their imagination or from a photograph. We’ll explore many approaches starting with mastering brush strokes, correcting mistakes, and under painting, as well as, how to apply flat and graded washes, create interesting dry brush effects, work with wet-in-wet, and use different materials (such as mediums, Masking Fluid and Gouache) for infinite looks and styles. Some previous painting experience required.
