Film Noir is a uniquely American genre of film making. From the early 40s to the late 50s, a body of American films dealt with the underbelly of the American dream. Explore the origins and influences of Film Noir including key figures, like writers, directors, and actors. Examine the visual style and storytelling conventions or character archetypes that define the genre. The first class will open with a presentation immediately followed by the screening of a select film. Each succeeding class will screen a particular masterpiece with an open discussion afterward. Join us to dive into the shadows and explore the complex morality and artistic brilliance of these classic American cinematic treasures.
