| Survival is an experience that combines personal attitude with knowledge and technical skills. Jon us on this weekend overnight campout to learn important wilderness skills and strategies to keep you safe in emergency situations and from such natural hazards as bear encounters, inclement weather, and poisonous plants and insects when hiking and during other outdoor activities. Using the outdoors as our classroom, you will utilize hands-on activities to learn such life-saving skills as building a shelter, compass navigation, topo map interpretation and ?nding your location if lost, matchless ?re building and camp?re cooking, ?nding water and puri?cation, safe knife use, making traps and snares, basic wilderness ?rst aid, and signaling for rescue. You will also learn how to make your own survival kit and come away with the knowledge and con?dence to not just survive, but to thrive in the wilderness! (A basic camping and hiking equipment list will be provided and tent, sleeping bag and other gear is available to rent, if needed.) This course is presented by the non-pro?t Wilderness Institute and takes place at the Santa Fe Tree House Camp and Wilderness Preserve.
