This class is a team effort between State Historian Rob Martinez and Nuevo Mexicano Heritage Arts Museum Curator Jana Gottshalk. Rob dives into the social history of 18th-century Mexico, while Jana looks at the same world through the fascinating lens of Casta paintings. Together, they weave a lively story about cultures colliding, shifting social status, and how a painting that was supposed to keep people in their place became the hero for a much different reason.
