Explore the spectacular geology and scenery of Iceland with a virtual field trip led by Dr. Kirt Kempter. This presentation will include photographs, diagrams, and Google Earth images to highlight the key geologic features that make Iceland a bucket list destination for all geologists. Dr. Kempter has led more than 30 tours to Iceland since his first visit in 1995. Some of the geologic highlights will include: 1) the plate boundary between North American and Eurasian plates, 2) unusual volcanoes that form beneath vast glaciers, 3) famous volcanoes, including Hekla and Surtsey and 4) historic eruptions that impacted global climate and human populations. This presentation will be approximately one hour in duration. Join Dr. Kempter live online along with your fellow students. Instructions to join the online class will be sent to you a few days before the class begins.
