Join local geologist Kirt Kempter for a 2.5-mile hike in the Tesuque foothills behind the Four Seasons. For this outing, we'll explore the geologic story of the Tesuque Formation, deposited by rivers flowing off the Sangre de Cristo Mountains between 25-10 million years ago. Great vistas during the hike will allow for a discussion on the evolution of the landscape for the Espanola Basin, including the rise of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the volcanic history of the Jemez Mountains, and the formation of the Rio Grande rift. Lunch from the Four Seasons Terra restaurant is included.
